Hebrew / biblical view of time quality rather than quantity, cf. successive generations experience the original Passover/ Exodus, Lord’s Supper
Three tenses of time:
Past – rejection of Jesus cross death
Present – resurrection
Future – return
Disciples:
Past – seen Jesus crucified
Present – full of fear and shame
Future – anticipated punishment on the basis of the past, cf. “By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”(1 John 4:17-18)
John 20:19-23: 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
What actually happens is that Jesus fills everything.
Jesus is the Future of All things
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab 2:14)
“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor 4:6)
Jesus as the image of the invisible God (Col 1:15) will be seen in everything.
